Unconditional love was something Taichi only received from his dogs and parents in his lifetime, but the way Deion was treating him made him feel a similar type of affection. Aside from being heartwarming it also made him question his motives. So far the other mage had been nothing but kind and generous, treating a stranger like he was family. Was it all purely out of the goodness of his heart? Or was he trying to win over more than just his friendship? Taichi couldn’t tell, the other had admitted to never having been intimate with someone, which meant he was probably not going to attempt any flirting, out of shyness. Having admitted to curiosity and basically not denying any such interest, his caring words could easily be mistaken for an attempt of wooing. Though he had also proven to be brutally honest, open, and naïve and trusting in a way, which meant he was very likely just oblivious and too good and innocent of heart for this cruel world. This made him want to protect him against those who would take advantage of his trusting nature. He smiled, yet with confusion on the other’s intentions “I.. Thanks. You too. If I can help with anything. It’s the least I can do after all you did for me”
Apparently the desire for dogs was mutual, the other insisting on getting one despite the risk. Then again, as a refuge he was always at risk, a dog could at least offer some protection on the side. With a heavy heart he admitted, not wanting to bring more risk or danger on the both of them, but since the other insisted, he did fiercely miss having dogs. “Okay, maybe it’s not such a stupid idea after all..”
The smell of the food had already filled the room, but it’s aroma only seemed to get stronger and better. At the mention of the smell Taichi sniffed the air to register it, saliva building up in his mouth causing him to gulp. “Me either, it smells amazing.”
He moved away from the counter and over to the stew where Deion was standing. There was something that had been tugging at him subconsciously that he finally realized. “We barely know each other and yet it feels like, I don’t know, familiar. Like family. I guess that makes us friends”
His eyes were shining like a dog begging for food, not that he realized this himself. It was because of his happiness over the new discovery and prospect of food.

"Friends? Yes, that is certainly it.", he said in response. "Perhaps fate even. Though I must ask this question now, and I will ask it again in the future.", he spoke rather softly, looking down at the floor before bringing his eyes up to meet Taichi. "If you accomplish your current goal, what will you do? Chances are Lotus Castle will brand us and anyone who assists as criminals. It's only a fair question to answer.", he stated firmly, keeping a calm appearance up. "It's not like you can avoid such a question, after all I doubt I'll be able to return to my current life. Likely the Yarrow will now longer be a safe haven. We could very well shake the foundations of the freedom mages currently have.", he stated.
"I'm not saying we don't do this, but weighing the consequences of our actions is important. Kill a butterfly now, and they'll be dire events in the future. Everything will come full circle eventually.", he stated. "So we must choose carefully.", he added. He leaned against a wall, giving a sigh. "Sorry, I'm not trying to sound so negative and dramatic. I can't help but worry, this is a lot to do.", he quickly added to provide a reasoning for his choice of topic.
He adjusted something, adding some spices into the large pot and tossed another log into the fire to keep it going before seating himself nearby. "You look pretty excited for something.", he said, resting his cheek against his hand with a sly grin. "Wanna let me know what's got you so excited my friend?", he asked.

Taichi didn’t see this sort of question coming, at least, not now. But it was true that they needed to be careful about their decisions, he didn’t want to put the freedom of magekind at risk. He sniffed once, the steam coming from the soup making his nose slightly runny, his hand pawing at his nose afterwards. “I don’t know. I guess I just want to take care of my mom and little sis. Keep them safe”
That was the only reason he even wanted to go on this crazy mission. If he didn’t have family back at the Castle he would’ve just avoided it entirely. It was a miracle that Deion even agreed to doing this, he was putting his own freedom on the line for him. Taichi crossed his arms. “You’re right, we shouldn’t make any hasty decisions. It’s also going to be hard finding mages who are as kind as you, but we do have one advantage: me. I know how they think, how the castle is built, their defense. With enough help we can at least rescue a few mages.”
Thinking about it got him excited. If he could pull something like this off he could perhaps forgive himself, if even a little, for what he had done to mages in the past. His new friend took notice of this and asked about it, catching him off guard. “Huh?”
He grinned and scratched his ear “Yeah, I guess it’s all these new plans for the future, it’s giving me hope and something to look forward to.”

He nodded. "Nothing wrong with getting excited. A lot of us cling to hope for a better life.", he stated. "Myself included.", he stated, looking down. "Magic shouldn't have to be hidden. It's a gift that we should be allowed to use. As much as we have the Government, we need an elected group of officials comprised of mages. Like a council or something to govern us and set laws for mages and their abilities. Perhaps the average person would fear us less if we appeared more responsible in their eyes.", he stated, continuing his prior sentence. "At least, that's what I like to think."
"So I see no problem with having hope. But it isn't always enough to hope.", he added. "We have tools at our disposal, like our magic. It's always about determination and how one uses their tools to full effect.", he finished. He looked at the soup again, before nodding. He walked over to one of the shelves and retrieved two bowls, along with of course two spoons. He also grabbed a ladle. "It's ready. Help yourself.", he set, setting what he obtained on a counter and taking a seat.
"I'll let you get yours first, I'm in no particular hurry.", he spoke.

Deion made an intelligent impression on Taichi. He had good reasoning and great ideas came pouring out of him effortlessly. Things he wouldn’t even be able to come up with himself. Though some of his actions still surprised him, like the fact that he took him in, and now that he collected the crockery and cutlery yet allowed his guest to fill their bowl first. Taichi agreed on his new friend’s ideas, but when he was offered to get the food first he couldn’t accept it. “That’s great, I’m starving!”
He happily took a bowl with a spoon in it and filled it with soup, and though he masked it well, it didn’t feel right to him. Controlling ones feelings was a big part of being a dog trainer, so he tended to act on eliminating any bad feelings he had. He walked over with the bowl and handed it to Deion. “Here you go. Pack leaders are always the first to feed.”
He then returned to the pot and filled a bowl for himself, before taking a seat next to him. “Or at least, in the dog world. Eating first would make me feel like I’m dominating you.”
Now having the bowl of soup under his nose got him to feel even more hungry, but it was still too hot to eat anyway. He blew on it to quicken the cooling down process. “Now to wait until it cools down enough for us to eat”
Self-control was a difficult thing to manage, but he taught it to his dogs, and to teach something one must be capable of doing it themselves. He rested the bowl on his lap, his hands still holding it to ensure it wouldn’t fall. “When we’re done eating I’d like to take a bath if that’s okay.”

Deion was a little surprised at being declared the pack leader. "Oh no, I wouldn't consider myself a leader. Simply someone who thinks things need to change.", he stated as he took the bowl, setting it down on a nearby table to allow it to cool down. "Don't worry about it. I don't care if it looks like you're dominating me.", he stated with a smile. "We're not like dogs right now, the thought is rather uncomfortable. It's entirely possible that the government could've had mages act like their attack dogs.", he added, providing his reasoning.
"A wise action to take. Though, hold still a moment.", Deion said as he held up his left hand and kept it pointed towards Taichi. "I'm able to numb the body with my magic. I could probably seclude it to just the digestive track if you're that hungry.", he said jokingly as he lowered his hand. "But you'd probably end up feeling the effects afterwards, so it probably isn't the best course of action to be hasty.", he provided a follow up.
Deino couldn't help but smile and stifle his laughter. "I think it would be a good idea to wash up, so go for it. I'm not gonna stop you, if I did eventually it would just get unbearable to smell you.", he said, trying to make light of the situation. "If you need anything just ask. You're a guest, I insist that you make yourself comfortable.", he said as he reached for his bowl, and began to enjoy his cooking.

That Deion openly admitted he didn’t mind getting seemingly dominated was strangely reassuring for Taichi. He had gone through such a massive change over the past few weeks, just a few months ago he was an entirely different person. A person who thrived on dominating others and pushing them around.
The soup was slowly losing heat, but was still too hot to eat without cooling it down further. Nevertheless he waited for Deion to start eating before eating himself. He had to blow on each spoon full to cool it down before he could put it in his mouth. It was a long time ago since he last ate something this delicious, his gratification showing “Mmmm, this is amazing! It’s even better than it smells!”
Patience was rewarding, something delicious tasting best on a hungry stomach. Being at a safe place with good food did wonders for his complexion. If he already felt this good now, he would feel reborn after a nice hot bath. While eating he remained silent, focused on the task at hand which was enjoying the food. After he finished his bowl he took seconds. He smiled at Deion gratefully. “I probably said it already, but thanks for everything you’re doing for me. I’m very grateful”
After they both finished eating he collected the bowls and dirty cutlery. “Here, let me take care of that.”
That said he walked over to the sink so he could wash the dishes. It wasn’t much so it wouldn’t take him long, and it was the least he could do since his friend took care of dinner.

"It's not a problem. This is the kind of stuff my mother wanted to do. Even if she's not here well, it's nice to think that she'd be happy with the things I'm doing. She'd take pleasure in making a move against Lotus Castle.", he added in with another gentle smile. Deion watched as Taichi washed their dishes. "I'll deal with the leftovers once it cools down enough, no point letting it go to waste.", he said as he stood up.
"So then, you wanted to take a bath right?", he asked, checking to make sure that was what he heard. He needs one now that the food is off my mind. He doesn't exactly have the most pleasant scent in the world right now, he thought as he pulled some sealed dishes down and set them about. He'd need those for when he came back to put away what was left over. "I can show you where to go if you think you'll get lost.", he offered to his comrade.

Deion seemed to know his mother well, something Taichi envied as he hadn’t really gotten the chance to get to know his own. Though neither of them were in a very fortunate situation regarding their mothers. Taichi nodded in agreement when his friend mentioned he wanted to save the left overs. When he finished up with the dishes he dried his hands on a nearby towel, which meant it was time for a bath. “Yes, definitely”
His friend offered to take him to it, but he remembered it was somewhere up the stairs. “I’m good, thanks.”
Without further ado he left the room and made his way to the second floor where the bed and bathrooms were. As he anticipated it wasn’t hard to find, and the sight of the wealthy bathroom had him in high spirits. It was a long time since he last enjoyed a luxurious bath. He was quick to undress and took a quick shower, washing himself thoroughly with soap. When he felt clean enough he quickly rinsed the bathtub of soap left overs and plugged it so that it could fill.
The shower was nice, but it could not compare to the feeling of a gradually filling bath tub, the water slowly submerging the majority of his body. It was incredibly relaxing, his tense muscles loosening up and mind wondering off to thoughts of mages taking over castle lotus. With a full stomach and mind at ease he started to lose consciousness, drifting into sleep.

While Taichi would tend to bathing himself, Deion had much less of an interesting pursuit of killing time. He began putting the leftover food into storage, freezing some portions of it and storing others for easy access. It was less for himself and more for Taichi he mused to himself, at least that's how he opted to justify it. After all, it was certainly interesting to allow someone who he knew so little about simply into a safe haven for himself, even if they were both mages. No, mother would help mages in need. It's the entire reason why she even bothered to maintain an upkeep on this building in the first place, he thought, remembering that most mages had an end-goal of either finding refuge in the Yarrow, but his mother had brought mages through Shirotsume Town back when he was a child.
He found himself in his mother's room. Much aware of her secrets, he ran a hand along the leather-bound books of a slender bookcase, gently tugging upon a rough, black-leather book. Deion could easily recall the contents of this book, it was his mother's own, which she used to document her time during the oppression against mages of Fiore. With subtle movement, he was able to open up a false wall, one which his mother explained to him was for the usage of hiding mages who were unjustly persecuted after the oppression ended. That hadn't stopped her parents however, from having many secret passages for their daughter to use with her status as a mage.
He stopped in the dark corridor, holding the bright flame of a simple candle as his guide. It was a gruesome display of notes written along the walls of this room, as Deion lit every candle, taking careful time to replace the ones that were burnt to the wick. "Here's where all of my mother's magic began. Notes, scrawled in blood.", she spoke, running a bare hand against the cold stone wall. "She was intelligent to code it, not many people could decipher this work. Even I have trouble and she left me a book to all of her secrets.", she said, setting a thin book onto a table. He shook his head in disbelief. "Not even those close to her, other mages have had luck working around this. It would be great to fully understand the magic she left to me, but I can't even figure out how to read this.", Deion started, before stopping himself short of a weary sigh.
He rubbed his eyes, the rarely dull green piercing the dimly lit room. "The eyes. It's always the eyes with her.", he stated, running his bare hand along the words written on the wall. Instead, he was leaving traces of his magic. The messages in this room became clear, but it was a small fraction of progress compared to what his mother had left in her passages. He quickly extinguished each candle with great care, before retreating back into the main part of the building. He could not appear to have disappeared, else risk Taichi discovering the darker secrets of the type of magic he practices. I'm sure many would like to utilize this magic, makes assassinations clean and quick, no external wounds left behind, he thought as he slumped down into a chair.
