The clock had just about overturned midday, reaching into the afternoon of an unexpectedly lovely day. The desert was, as one could presume during this time of year, incredibly and unbearably hot. There weren't many creatures that would willingly pass through during the worst hours. Yet, exactly one such foolish creature was moving through the desert, on the way back to the port city of Harujion. In Harujíon, there was museum. A museum that had requested the Valkyrie to undertake an excavation of sorts in the temple ruins further into the desert. Now that the task was complete, she was heading back as quickly as she possibly could. The sun was beating down from above, and sweat was pouring off of her in vast amounts. The bag at her waist fortunately still held two water bottles and some fruit, easily enough to get her safely back to port. Over her body, she was wearing a desert cloak, to shield herself from sandstorms and from the heat. The hood was pulled up, so as her skin wouldn't be roasted. Underneath the cloak, she was in the regular Valkyrie armor. Although it didn't offer much protection, it was the only armor she knew how to channel her magic through. The metallic clunks were heard with every single step that the girl took.
...About halfway between Harujion and the temple, the girl found a large sand bank that mounded out in a dune. With the current positioning of the sun, it was the only place in a wide area where she could see herself getting any kind of shadow. So rather than delaying further, she placed herself into the shadow, and started rummaging through her bags. The trip ahead was a couple of hours, so she would need rest eventually. Pulling out the water-bottle, she somewhat awkwardly managed to unscrew the cap. Although there were a couple of people who had attempted to teach her this revolutionising technology, she still wasn't up to par with most of the new things. As such, an excavation of a ruin that was as old as herself, had been an extraordinary welcome passtime.

“Wa….W….” A mumbling figure would make itself known to the cloaked Valkyrie. “W……Wat…..W-W..W-Wat…” He mumbled pathetically in a slur of stutters and incomplete words. The stick-like figure appeared to be nothing more than an frail old man, a fact which would become clear not only due to his boney frame in the distance, but also, due to the manner in which he was limping his way over to Astra one small step at a time. “W-W-Waaa….” He cried out once more as his lifeless eyes glued themselves to the bottle of liquid in the girl’s hand.
Upon reaching no more than a couple feet from Astra, however, the strange man would trip over his extended cloak, the act of which causing him to face plant into the scorching hot sand. If the Valkyrie was paying any real attention to the man’s antics, she would take note that his arms bore no real strength or energy. Rather than pulling himself up, the man’s arms simply flailed around like a pair of dying fish as his face remained semi-submerged under the white sand. “W..W…W….” He cried out, the act which causing his face to further sink into the sand.

Sitting there, calmly resting, the girl was soon brought out of her own little world, by the coughing and gasping of someone else. Holding up an arm over her eyes, so that she could see him properly, what appeared like an old man was stepping through the desert. Rather confused, and unable to hear what he was mumbling about, the girl wasn't reacting until he was actually falling over almost besides her. The spark in the girls eyes was inquisitive, but soon they widened as she stumbled backwards, getting to her feet, making more distance between herself and the fallen man. Unsure of what it was, her eyes of the heavens, a skill that allowed her to rather precisely judge the dangers of situations, revealed that things weren't as they were meant to be. "Thou shall not step closer!" Astra called out, uncertain of how to handle the situation. There, right in front of her, was another human who was clearly in need of her assistance, but she wasn't sure why she was getting a threathened sensation off of him. How could someone so meek and weak pose a threat? There could be plenty of reasons, and she wasn't taking any chances. Perhaps he merely wanted water, and would otherwise let her go, able to handle his situation on his own. Lightly screwing the bottlecap back in place, so that it would be easy to open, she chugged the bottle to the man. If he had the strenght, he would be able to drink on his own. In the meantime, she needed to determine wheter the threat was coming directly from the man, or if he could otherwise be posessed or the like.
Kneeling down from a distance, she was watching him carefully, trying to find traces of magic or other phenomena that she could identify. Anything at all that would give an answer to why she was feeling so threathened by his pressence. If nothing was given, she would have to leave the man behind, and send someone else from the village to pick him up. With the water bottle and the shade, he should be able to last till help was sent.

The man’s body began to squirm and shake. He was suffocating, apparently. That much being clear from the way in which his arms would eventually fall limply besides his head before spreading outwards repeatedly in a cheap attempt to dig himself out. The very manner in which he did this almost appeared as if he was attempting to create a ‘sand angel’, a rather amusing act if not for the fact that the poor creature was quite literally fighting for his life. Rather oddly, however, as the life slowly drained from the man, the danger Astra was sensing off of him would not fade in the slightest. If anything, it appeared to be growing more sinister by the second.
“…..” An inaudible muffle could be heard from the man, though any real words would be drowned out by the sand enveloping his face. The man was losing his strength and in moments, even pushing the sand away from himself would begin to prove itself as too arduous of an task to complete. “H...e…l….p……” The words would softly form as Astra’s bottle of water landed beside the dying man. In a few moments he would be gone, his last thoughts being of nothing more than the cruel devil who had done nothing so far other than watch as the last bit of air left his crippled old lungs.

Unable to determine the cause of the sinister sensation, and with the man visibly dying in front of her eyes, the girl had to make a decision on what she was going to do. Quickly tallying the facts in her head, she was making statements that were definitely true. The man had been out, supposedly by himself, in the middle of the desert. Weakened, he was travelling away from the nearest city, which for anyone who had been smart enough to bring a desert cloak, seemed an unlikely choice. There was no indication or guarantee that even if she rushed in to aid him, that she would be able to help him. Lowering her head, she gave the man a saddened look. Thats when, she forced herself to make a decision. Despite the apparent danger coming off of the man, she would try one more thing to assist him. Moving forwards, she would open her other bottle of water. Positioning herself above the man, yet far enough away that she could move if he attempted to grab her or something silly. "Open thy mouth, sir. Attempt drinking. Thou shan't try anything funny, or I will be forced to leave thou behind for the desert." From there, Astra would carefully pour the water over his face, trying to especially get it to his lips and inside his mouth. If this wasn't good enough to get him hydrated enough that he could take the other bottle and get on his feet, the Valkyrie would be forced to leave him behind. There was absolutely no way that she would get any closer than she already was, especially as she was unable to identify what was setting off all her alarm-bells.
Honor dictated that she couldn't leave a man in such poor shape without trying. At this point, however, she had done everything that she believed she feasibly could without getting herself into further, unknown danger. If she saw any movement aside from attempting to drink, she would leap backwards. This was simply too strange, and far too creepy...

The frail old man began rolling from side to side, the act of which revealing the look of pure grimace etched onto his face. If Astra was the type to pay keen attention to detail, then she would be able to take note of the man’s dried and cracked lips. There was no doubt that he was dehydrated and so possibly, she had made a lifesaving decision to force water into the foreigner’s lips. “T..T….h…a….” Those were the only words he would be able to form before having to silence himself so that the stream of water could make its way into his lips and down his throat.
Unfortunately, it would appear that the Valkyrie had underestimated the man’s drinking capacity, especially when considering that his throat had literally shrunken and become narrower due to dehydration. In mere seconds, the man would begin choking and gagging on the very liquid that he had been pleading for. “H…E…..” He would attempt to form words with his newly moisturized tongue, however, this time, the gagging would be the reason behind nothing understandable escaping his lips.
“Come on- Touch me you crazy wench!” Thought the man as he gave the performance of a life time. Being a natural born actor, it would be difficult for Astra to be able to see through his fake gagging and forced convulsions. She would, however, sense the danger looming over the man as clear as she would sense that if she did nothing, the man would surely die. “Touchhh meeee!” It was a shame though, that the crazy old man wasn’t as patient as he was a skilled actor. If the woman did nothing to save the teary eyed man from dying, he would simply leap at her unexpectedly with no real intention other than to touch her for some strange and unclear reason “Just move closeeeeer! Clooooooooseeeeeeeer!”.

This simply wasn't functioning for her. Despite the man seemingly being on deaths door, she couldn't get closer to him than this due to the strange threathening sensation that was oozing out of him. With him gagging and getting some water inside, hopefully that would suffice. With her bottle running empty, the only other option she would have had, was to try with the other bottle. Albeit, pouring that over him in the same manner that she had the first, would only waste the precious resource. Looking at him, the girl scratched her cheek. Just as she was about to declare that she had done everything that she feasibly could, the man appeared to spring into action. The instant that he started moving, Astra leapt backwards, as she had been prepared to do from the very beginning of their encounter. Skidding across the surface of the sand dune, in a backwards motion, it suddenly became very apparent to her that this individual wasn't even remotely as close to deaths door as she had first presumed. This was an individual who had been playing possum, and was, for whatever reason, attempting to trick the Valkyrie. "Foul decrepit creature. May the desert take thou!" With the sensation of threat from him constant, she made a snap decision. Since this was something that she couldn't identify, there was absolutely no reason for her to get involve. A single individual who was threathening noone but her, could be left on his own. Turning around, the girl would immediately start dashing across sand dunes, attempting to make some distance between herself and the crazed man.
There she had been, in the desert, attempting to assist an individual who had appeared to be in desperate need. Just like within the temple, it had turned out to be a rouse. One day or another, Astra ought to rethink her own naivety. For now though, her direction was towards the city. Hopefully there would be less crazy happenings there...

The man hissed like a serpent as he face planted into the sand once more. “Wench!” He squealed as he rose from the ground shakily and began to spit out the specs of sand that had managed to cling themselves to his newly moistened lips. “I’m going to- HEY! COME BACK!” The man’s threats would be cut off as the lady sprinted away into the distance. “Grrrr.” He growled, this time almost sounding like some sort of feral animal. The girl was gone and there was no way that his frail body would allow him to catch up to her any time soon. “Wait…” The man’s disappointment would soon shift into a widened grin as he noticed something familiar about the direction the girl was heading towards.“AHAHAHAHAHAHA!” He laughed, the act of which causing him to slump over in pain. “Hehe… I just came from that city.” He grinned before scratching his back.
------ “THAT BASTARD!” Proclaimed a large bearded man clad in leather armour. “What do we do!? What do we do!? He touched us! We are dead! We are screwed!” The flurry of words would come from the twelve bandits circling the larger man. “Boss!” Said the younger bandit who much like the others, had his face obscured by a brown hooded-cloak. “We can’t go back… The city won’t ever take us back like this.” He seemed distraught, much like the others. The only ‘calm’ one appeared to be the bulky gentlemen who the others clearly regarded as their leader. “Ugh. Don’t worry… There’s a cure. Always a cure. We just have to loot and plunder anyone we find until we can afford it!” The bearded man’s voice was full of power and strength. Not only had it filled his men with confidence, it had also served to bring some order to the unruly group. “Okay. Let’s figure this out boss!”------ Astra for the most part, would not come across any real trouble in her journey towards the city. The crazy old man for one, had no real hopes of catching up to anyone able to move at the pace of a moderate sprint. If she continued in this direction for much longer, however, eventually she would find herself crossing paths with the bandits long before she would reach the safety of the city. Interestingly, there was also the fact that if she managed to observe the bandits before they could spot her, she would sense a familiar sense of danger looming over them. Although it doesn’t require anything supernatural to realise that bandits are hardly the most friendly of groups, the Valkyire would find that the sense of danger wasn’t so much a caution revolving around money, but rather, a caution against her life.

Continuing her travels onwards, she slowed down her pace as soon as she couldn't see the old man behind her anymore. Sighing softly, the heat from the sun certainly wasn't gentle. Tugging the desert cloak over her further, she was creating a little shade for herself, as she continued moving forwards after having made certain that she wasn't being followed. Travelling in such a manner, Astra was making good headway back towards the city of Harujion. Figuring that it would be incredibly unlikely that she'd meet anyone else in the desert, she wrote the interaction with the old man off as some kind of freak accident. Naturally, the world just loved proving the girl wrong, as she came upon what appeared to be a small camp of individuals. They were openly discussing something, and they seemed distraught. Bandits in the desert certainly weren't a welcome sight for the Valkyrie, but there was something completely off about them. The danger and threat that the girl felt from them, was overpowering. Just like the man she had met in the desert, there was something about them that she couldn't place her fingers on. Throwing herself down on the ground, she was rolling down into a dune. To her, it would function somewhat like a trench, so that she hopefully wouldn't be spotted by the bandits... Just my luck. From the fire into the furnace. Edging her way to the side, she was hoping she could get to sneak around the bandit camp without needing a confrontation. There were, as far as she mad managed to count, at least ten of them around the camp. It was more than what she could really hope to take on in her weakened state...
Edging herself towards the east, the girl would be walking in a large arc around the bandits. Hopefully they would stay in place and just let her slip by unnoticed. If not, she would have to flee once again, because fighting that many at once simply wasn't going to happen.

“Alright. Team A, move out.” On command, four of the bandits would cluster together and make a dash for the distance. They appeared to be moving completely in the opposite direction to Astra and further away from the city. “Team B, sneak your way into the city as planned.” Much like before, a group of four would form a team together and begin making their way towards the direction of Harujion. “Team C, you know what needs to be done.” Excluding the over-sized boss, only four bandits remained in the vicinity at this point. Also, unlike the more organized groups before them, these men appeared to be the grunts of the group tasked with nothing more than setting up the remainder of the camp.“That damn old man…” Whispered the leader of the group under his breath. Clearly, everyone was totally oblivious to Astra’s presence. In between sharpening his axe, the leader of the group appeared to be scratching his back heavily in a rather obsessed manner. “Boss… Can we really make it through this?” Whimpered one of the younger grunts, the act of which causing everyone to lower their heads. “We will go down fighting. We will go down killing. Heh. We will teach the city a lesson. We will infect everyone. Women, children and their pets! Then the Government will have no choice but to give us a cure! And if that doesn’t work, we will steal what we can under the panic and buy the cure!” The man snickered under his breath before removing his cloak to reveal a series of black dots littering his back and upper arms. If Astra knew anything about the Deadly Crow virus, then she would know that this was the first of many symptoms.
------ At this point, the Valkyrie had a number of options. Forsake the lives of many and simply ignore all of this chaos, chase after the group of bandits heading towards the city or simply take on the leader and end things at the source. Whatever she decided to do, however, she would need to be careful. Although she had been lucky enough to avoid all of the traps that had been set up in the vicinity of the bandit’s camp, there was no guaranteeing what may happen should she move around too much with little caution. It should be noted though that for the most part, the bandit’s arsenal did not include anything too life threatening such as bear traps or mines. Instead, all that remained buried around Astra and in a ring formation around the camp itself were a multitude of fist-sized plates that have been rigged to alarm the camp should something or someone apply enough pressure on them.

Carefully listening from a distance, as the bandits started talking, they were catching her attention. An old man. Infection. Spreading it to the entire city. Slowly things were starting to come together and make a whole lot more sense. The old man that she had met in the desert, was likely sick with some kind of disease. A disease that he had managed to spread to these souls. They were scratching some strange markings on their back, and otherwise acting slightly strange. It seemed that their idea of attaining a cure, was to get as many infected as possible. Judging by the threat that she sensed off of all of them, it was likely a disease that was deadly. It would certainly explain the nervousness that ran through the camp. The bandits were splitting up for several different tasks. One group was heading further into the desert. If the girl understood them right, they were likely going to attempt and pillage the camp of archaeologists, or hunt down the one who had caused them the sickness in the first place. Another group was breaking up and heading for Harujion. Their goal was to sneak in and get in contact with as many innocents as possible. Finally, there was the group of bandits, including the leader, remaining at the camp. Frankly, they didn't interest her much. Assaulting the camp wouldn't prevent innocent lives from being lost. So rather than attacking the head of the snake, she would head out for its teeth. Continuing to sneak her way around the camp, and thus not getting close enough to alarm anyone of her pressence, she was on the hunt for the group that would be attempting to sneak into the city.
The girls plan was relatively simple. Most of the city had guards watching the areas. So, rather than fight everything on her own, she would wait till they had found their desired entrance, then make sure to make enough noise to alarm the entire city that infected bandits were present, and that they should stay their distance. In the worst case scenario, she herself would get infected, but that was a small price to pay for protecting so many innocents. For now though, she was keeping herself low and silent. If everything went as she suspected, the bandits would have no reason to believe that they were being followed. The element of surprise was the one thing that would allow her to outwit these buffoons who only cared for themselves. If they had been repenting, merely wanting a cure and being desperate, she could've likely understood their motives. Infecting the innocent for their own gain, however, was a heinous act! By the gods, these bandits would be punished!

Astra made her decision, leaving the four grunts and their leader to plot and carry out their evil plans. She had also managed to avoid detection by keeping a cautious distance away from her foes, though in doing so, she had missed a vital piece of information.------ “Okay boss, the parameter is secure. Should we go ahead and move the crates?” Asked one of the lowly grunts with a chuckle. “Heh. Five crates full of chocolate milk from Tear Desert’s unique Cocobalo plants…. With each and every drop infected with our tainted blood of course. With the ruckus Team A and B will cause, these will easily make their way into the merchant ships heading to Onibas. Gyahaha.”------ It would take a while for the Valkyrie to catch up with the group due to their head start, however, their familiar cloaked forms would eventually bless her vision after somewhat of an exhausting chase. “Okay… Let’s do this. Apologies brother.” Mumbled the tallest of the bandits as he kicked one of the members of the group onto the warm ground. Although everyone was totally unaware of Astra’s presence due to their clumsy nature, Astra would more than be able to spot the rope around the downed bandit’s arm. “P-Please!” He pleaded, though to no avail. He would quickly be silenced by the other three as they pulled a strip of silver tape across his lips. “Mmnhmgmgm!”It wouldn’t take much cognitive power to realise that the three bandits were betraying their brother in arms. Though for what purpose? The trio and their hostage were still somewhat of a few minutes march away from the gate, though it did appear as if they planned to march directly through the main gate as opposed to seeking some sort of back entrance. On the other hand, it wasn’t clear how they planned to achieve such a feat when considering their reputation amongst the community, which wasn't exactly positive even before managing to clumsily infect each other with the deadliest virus known to mankind.

Blissfully unaware of what was being sent to Onibas, as she had chosen to protect Harujion, Astra was catching up to the group of bandits rather quickly. Catching up was mostly because the bandits were doing something strange. Assaulting one of their own, they appeared to tie him up. Could they perhaps be claiming innocence and turning in their brother to the authorities? Abusing one of their own as a ploy to get him inside the walls? Following silently, the Valkyrie would be waiting patiently until they were within sight of the gate. As soon as the guards were reacting to the bandits approach, Astra decided to blow her cover and toss out a warning. "Do not let these foul criminals approach! They're infected with some kind of disease, highly contagious and dangerous! They plan to infect all of Harujion, and possibly other places too!" Calling out to the guards in a booming voice, Astra was certain that she would be heard. At this point, their antics and their plans likely wouldn't matter, for the warning alone would at least raise enough suspicion that the bandits would be inspected properly. Finding herself between the bandits and the desert, she wasn't exactly too stressed about her positioning. From this place, she could possibly use her Valkyrie wings to get to the walls. From there, the guards likely wouldn't allow the bandits to harm her. Granted, if she flew onto the walls, their actions would likely be far more hostile, as they couldn't be certain she herself wasn't infected.
"I am not infected with the disease! If the bandits choose to attack me, I will fly to the wall, and allow a peaceful inspection! Please do not harm me." Astra shouted, readying herself for the worst. If the bandits decided to approach her, she would be prepared to launch herself into the air to make her escpae. "I suggest thou surrender! Perhaps the city will aid in finding thou a cure." She called out to the bandits, having claimed the strategic upper hand, she felt rather comfortable with herself.

Astra had managed to figure it out. The trio were indeed going to sell out their friend in hopes untarnishing their names for the sake of gaining quick and unimpeded access into Harujion. “Sorry buddy. Just take one for the team and try not to get burned at the stake.” Mumbled the youngest of the group with a heartless grin. After that point, the trio would simply grab hold of their squirming scapegoat and forcibly carry the poor fool to the gates. “I know it seems like we are screwing you over, but it isn’t anything like that. You are the star that is going to save us! The boss will forever remember your name! …Whatever it is.” The words of encouragement quickly turned sour, causing the tied up member to lose all will to struggle. He had at last realised that he was a fool to expect any sense of comradeship in a group of thugs.
“Attention guards, we have-” As the group approached the gate, their attempt to bargain with the guards would end abruptly as they found themselves cut off by a new and unfamiliar voice. “Who the heck is this grey haired grandma?” Mumbled the youngest as he shot the girl a glare. “This girl has it all wrong. You see this moron we are carrying? He IS the infected one she speaks of. He planned to infect all of us and then the city, so we decided to turn the traitor in. That girl over there must have been listening in on us but misunderstood what we were talking about.” The bandit pleaded his case while all the meanwhile glaring at the girl in a cheap attempt to force her to back down. “Wait… When the hell did she overhear us anyway?”
The guards appeared to be puzzled. In the end though, there was no way that they were going to trust the words of bandits who had been terrorizing the town for months. “The maiden speaks sense. However, no one is passing these gates without an inspection first!” The guard would slam his lance into the ground in a rather intimidating manner, causing the bandits to back down. “Y-You!” Grimaced the trio as they dropped their ally and drew daggers. “Time to teach you a lesson grandma!” As ‘negotiations’ broke down, the youngest and more plucky bandit would make a charge for Astra’s position. Meanwhile, the other two bandits would simply remain behind in a cheap attempt at distracting the guards while their buddy took care of the Valkyrie with his mundane daggers. Clearly, he was unaware that he was charging right towards a mage.

Astra would sigh softly. These bandits simply refused to learn their lesson. Already before the bandits started moving towards her, she had already announced exactly what she planned to do. To fly, it meant that she needed to be a magic user, yet this complete moron hadn't managed to figure that out on his own. Fortunately for Harujion however, the guards were very much interested in paying attention to what the Valkyrie had to say. Even if she wasn't immediately trustworthy, nor allowed through the gates, her warning seemed to have enough merit that the bandits couldn't unfurl their devious schemes. It was a victory for her in every way imagineable. Looking towards the desert for a short moment, the girl wondered if she should attempt to head back to the bandits camp. On that note however, it wasn't exactly her headache to deal with currently, and if she warned the city, surely they would send out someone to investigate. If they didn't, at least the blame couldn't be placed on the Valkyrie.
Gathering a lot of magical energy into her feet and shoulderblades, when she released it to jump upwards in a flash of bright shimmering light, the sand that she was standing on gave in. This caused the girl to instead leap forwards in high speeds, tackling the unfortuante bandit that was coming towards her with an armored shoulder. Due to the high speed and her wings flapping, she was likely far too fast for the poor guy to react to her movements at all. Backing off immediately, afraid of touching the bandit, she exclaimed loudly. "Thou see how inferior thou are! I am Astra of the Valkyries! Doth not attempt anything suspicious, or I shall strike thou all down from the heavens!"
Skill Name: Eyes of the Heavens
Description: As a Valkyrie, Astra has a natural aptitude at judging an opponents strenght and threat level. It allows her to judge wheter she stands a chance, or wheter she is outclassed completely. The eyes grant the same information about casted spells.
Skill Name: Eyes of the High Heavens
Description: The Valkyrie are those chosen by the gods, who shall watch the battles of the mortals, judging the mortals as worthy or unworthy to enter the divine halls. It is through this knowledge, that Astra has gained an insane insight into combat, allowing her to react faster and make better decisions than an average person.
Skill Name: Heroic Presssence
Desciption: Astra's pressence can be felt on the battlefield. Capable of inspiring herself or any chosen ally, the effects of poison, paralysis, sleep and fear can be temporarily ignored. Once the effect of Heroic Pressence fade, the entire backlash from any such effects are felt immediately. (Three turns before backlash kicks in)
