" It had created a small spectacle already, six large bowls upturned nearby and stacked with completion. The owner would only nod, nervously preparing the next bowl... but as it was placed and the seventh bowl was topped off and stacked, there was no exchange of cash. The onlookers were not interested in the fact that the man ate so much, so much as they wondered what the beast was. Sticking from a head of messy, black hair was a single horn. To the naked eye, it appeared as real as the man's flesh. In actuality, it was a slip and use of Take Over magic, the tell-tale sign of the most recently acquired soul of the Mage. " Horned Imps are too much work... I'm starved after chasing it so much! Oh man, this food is great!"[/ul]

Astra has sincerely been missing the banquets of the high heavens. The times where the heroes would be gathered in the main hall around the huge wooden tables. There would be so much meat and mead, that it seemed nigh impossible to get through it all. There was singing, dancing. The heroes would be boasting about their mighty achievements, detailing the moments before they fell with such precision and enthusiasm, that one couldn't help but have ones heart swayed by the fantastical element of it all. Here on Fiore, there seemed to be nothing equal to the great banquets of the heavens. Perhaps that lonesome and creeping insignificance is why Astra had been out in the woods to do herself some hunting. A wild boar, almost the size of a small ox, had been skewered, dumped onto a small cart, and pulled towards Kunugi where she would be preparing it. Additionally, there were two whole barrels of mead accompanying the young Valkyrie. Within Kunugi park, the preparations were already made. There was a spitroast, which after careful skinning and cleansing of the porks belly, became the holding point for the animal. Pouring a little mead and spices onto the animal, she was rubbing it in nicely, making sure that the taste would sink in deep. Then she casually lit a fire underneath the beast, allowing the flame and smoke to start doing some work to it, as she, full of hopes for the meal, spun the beast around on its roast.
There were a couple of extra tables there at the park, and Black Howling wouldn't be excluding others from joining her little banquet. There were also several drinking horns spread across the table for people to take as they pleased. Pouring the first horn of mead for herself, she drank, happily, enjoying the spreading scent of the cooking meal. This was going to be a banquet in her honor. Afterall, she was the one who brought the food and alcohol. With a light blush to her lips, she smiled. "Come mortals! Celebrate in my glory, and let us feast in this banquet!" Shouting out all over the park, there were sure to be some that would join her little feast. Right?

" As the bowl came down, the owner paused and seemed to smile... but jumped as the swordsman turned and got up, the shifting of his gear and weapon reminding him of the pointless fear. When Arton looked back, the man had ducked under the counter... which made him smirk. A free meal was better than one he had to pay for... so if the guy had gone off, why not get walking? So as he turned, the mage was met with a new sight... a feast and a plethora of smells. Spiced meat and alcohol, two very good things for anyone who was self-respecting of their own guts! And as the ragged, messy, one-horned warrior looked off toward the display to spot the woman and gathering it only became more real. Moving a hand upward, Arton rubbed over the messy face, bangs, and finally reached the horn with a frown. As it vanished and the swordsman finished cleaning himself up somewhat, he'd start over toward the gathering. There were quite a few faces, though most didn't look his way as they stood around and thanked the mysterious woman, in the crowd. All of them were simple folk in the small village... but as he grew closer the presence that had brought such a banquet seemed to stand out more and more. Silver-gray hair and a good smile, she was a looker for sure. But all he could notice was that she was clearly different from the average villager. The large meal she was preparing for everyone, after all, was a large boar. Such a beast wasn't easy to fell... not without the proper tools anyway. As Arton thought, however, he made his way through the crowd until he was standing before the boisterous woman. Arms crossed, a look of deep thought on his face, the swordsman certainly didn't look like any of the villagers who now looked at him in a mix of confusion and fear. The latter, of course, due to the drool on the right side of his mouth as he stared at the boar. " Nice woman, piggy... you must have fought him for so long... nice and tender meat would be good sliced. Swords... useful for that." And very obviously... Arton wasn't able to think or talk straight due to his food lust, drawing many sighs and complete looks of disbelief from the small crowd around them.[/ul]

Feasting while drinking through the mead, Astra was getting a slight bit intoxicated and party happy. There was music in the background as people had started pouring in to get some of the food and some of the mead. It was turning from a feast into a small banquet as others were bringing salads and what not as they saw fit. It had become somewhat of a everyone bring something to the table and eat however you please. Astra wasn't there to supervise or change anything. All the tiny Valkyrie wanted, was to have some of the food she had hunted in just the way she liked it, which involved eating just the spiced and roasted meat. After about three horns of mead, there was a strange pressence amongst the gathered. He was frightening the others, to the point where he was threathening to ruin their little banquet. So Astra, from her position at a table, simply shouted out in her halfway drunken haze. "Oi, Asshole, stop frightening people and dig into the food, dumbass!" With the callout, people almost immediately stopped being afraid. If the Valkyrie was there to challenge this strange individual, then it was rather certain that everyone else was free to do whatever they wanted to. Refilling her drinking horn from the mead barrel, she was enjoying the honey-alcohol taste...
Regardless of how drunk she was going to get though, there was noone out there who would be allowed to ruin her banquet that she had so desperately wanted. A little drunken brawl had happened in the halls of the gods, so she was used to fighting while slightly intoxicated. With her eyes, she was quite aware that he wouldn't be strong enough to hold even a candle to her, so he'd better behave!

" The young man didn't do much more beyond that as one hand moved to grab a drinking horn and the other drew his sword. Blade in hand, he delivered a fast, skillful duo of slashes. The first cut the initial slice through the boar's thick, meaty body only a moment before the second cut made the "wedge" complete. It was only with the wedge loosely shifting within that he made a final stab into the chunk and pulled it away. Raising the weapon to his mouth, the horn giving a quick mouthful of the beverage, the man took a big, sloppy bite out of the cooked meat. His hunger was certainly no joke, since great food kept the man constantly feeling refreshed, but the bowls from earlier had filled him up enough to make only the first mouthful vanish before he waved the meat-coated tip toward the woman as others feasted. " You're not from around here, right? You any good with a sword? If you're as good at fetching food as you are with a sword, maybe I'd ask for a match!" Statement made, the man turned slightly to look down the road toward where she had come from. Outside of the area, no doubt, but perhaps it'd prove as a good hunting ground for old spirits of hunters. After all, such a beast no doubt had plenty of people after it in the past. The swordsman was confident in his skill with a blade to take down such a creature... but magically the prospect of more Take Over forms only boosted the prospect. Regardless, Arton raised the sword-stuck meat toward his shoulder, resting it lazily over the strapping of his armor. The people had looked up, but none were terrified of the man anymore. Casually waving a sword was one thing, but the strange dressed woman had brought food and seemingly pacified the glutton. That is... until he looked toward her with a smirk. " Hell... why not fight me anyway if you have a blade? I've eaten a lot recently and could use something to burn the calories off. Drinking and eating is good and all, but a good fight is better!"[/ul]

Gracing the other with a simple look, Astra knew for a fact that he couldn't put up even a remotely decent fight against her. Comparing the two of them was as astronomical worlds apart as comparing a kitten to a tigress. Still, if he desperately wanted to fight her and acknowledge this fact, then who was she to stop him? If anything, the Valkyrie loved fighting. It was the sole thing that she was made to do. Even so, his demeanor was insulting her. "Fetch food? You're addressing a Valkyrie of the high heavens, infidel! You shall show me more respect, or I shall have you punished for your insolence." Spitting onto the ground, she was clearly threathening in demeanor. If he didn't behave himself properly around her, she'd kick his ass all the way back to the stone ages. "Ha! Pub, you wouldn't last even five minutes. Especially not with a sword. The sword's advantage is on horseback or when piercing armor! It is a useless weapon in a duel. But if you insist, I shall show you your own helplessness." Taking another deep bite into the boar, Astra ripped the meat off of the bone, before rising up from her position at the bench. Slowly stepping away from the group of gathered, she unhooked her weapon, the bladed staff Loki's Sting from her back. It was a monstrous weapon, seemingly designed to devour life and battle itself. Swinging it around in a short show of demonstration, she wasn't sure he was still going to challenge her. Then again, most mortals weren't the brightest. The armor that she was wearing would also easily repel most of the attacks he was capable of doing. In fact, Astra estimated that regardless of what she attempted to do, this other person would hardly be able to scratch her. To her, he was nothing more than a plastic toy soldier. Slow and clumsy.
"I'll warn you, though, Arton. all these people gathered might laugh at your misfortune in a few short moments. Make sure you come at me with the intent to kill. Any weakness and I'll have you regret approaching me at all!" Casually placing the edge of her weapon onto the ground, she seemed completely unprepared, yet she had asked him to come at her with killing intent. That is exactly how confident Astra was in her own abilities. The gap that she had judged in their power was simply too large. Tilting her head to the side, she was even mocking him with a soft yawn. If his blood didn't get boiling, he wouldn't even be able to entertain her in the slightest. Holding up a hand in front of herself, she waved, gesturing for him to bring it.

Legends are made, not born. |
The events that unfolded rather quickly might have been strange for others, but with each passing moment Arton was internally smiling. The woman had first seemed offended, which wasn't his intention, but had then rushed to say the sword lacked the advantage. All of his life had been built around fighting with a sword, as had his ancestors, but the ghostly mage could only smile at the thought. Being at a natural disadvantage against someone meant he would have to change in combat to advance his skills. There wasn't much way for him to accurately gauge anyone's strength or skills... but as Astra had moved out and been getting ready, the gluttonous Take Over mage had lifted the sword and taken a giant bite from the meat. It was pitiful to waste such great food, but the man needed his sword... which resulted in him angling the weapon briefly before giving it a dismissive swing, the blade cutting through the meat only a moment later as the swordsman changed the angle of the slash slightly upward and added force.
"Come at you with the intent to kill, huh? I guess I can handle that... even if I'm not a fan of duels to the death with women!"
It wasn't intended to be sexist, but rather that there were other things Arton preferred doing with women. But, he hadn't been raised in a very "progressive" part of Fiore after all. Turning to face her and the unique weapon in her hand, the swordsman's expression darkened slightly in a moment's thought. The armor he wore wasn't going to be enough to stop a direct slash from such a beast... but part of him wondered if his Take Overs were worth even bringing out. It was always hard to judge the force his Samurai's form could take, especially since it was a Partial Take Over, but it had stopped swords in the past. Narrowing his eyes, Arton extended his sword forward as the panels began flickering over his form as the magic activated.
"My magic is Take Over magic.... you don't mind if I use it to modify my strength and defenses, do you?"
While he had asked, the intent was to use it anyway. Someone wanting him to come at them with the intent to kill, after all, would expect his best. The dirt road beneath him gave a slight shift in the top layer as his appearance didn't morph into that of a samurai... but into one rather goofy. Two horns, curved inward and upward, were visible from his black mophead... but the strangest part was a rather "kawaii" skull mask resting between them atop his head. As the magic set in, Arton gave an experimental swing of his weapon, the sword faster than before. While the spirit he had obtained was a new one, the focus of Death's Imp was speed. While defense and strength were nice... being able to attack faster was going to be required.
"Don't blink... or you might miss me!"
The warning wasn't needed regardless as Arton took the sword into both hands, the mask on his head sliding over his face. The instant it had, the man dashed forward in a spray of some dirt and dust, the onlookers giving a few looks of awe but still confident in their huntress. Sword low and to the right, Arton grabbed the blade mid-lunge with both hands, turning it around before bringing the weapon diagonally upward from right to left. There was no hesitance in his stance now, however... the mask worn over his face made that clear as new eyes looked out from within. Gleaming, red orbs were now staring lifelessly ahead... a sign that the man's control over such a form wasn't very strong nor practiced as most Take Overs require. | |
NOTES --- Death's Imp form activated. As it was acquired rather recently, the current drawbacks are slight magic drain and a loss of control after three turns/posts, resulting in him losing his ability to think and control himself for two posts. Think the difference between a trained soldier and someone who's gone loopy from lack of food and water.

Astra stood there, looking at her opponent with an unamused stare. This was definitely the worst kind of opponent to face for her. Not because they were dangerous to her, more because she got so bored that paying attention became a drag. A soft yawn left her lips as she considered rubbing her eyes for a short moment. Tilting her head to the side, she casually massaged the back of her neck. This guy was someone to talk a lot, explain a lot, specifically about things that she didn't care about. The truth was that he was weak and insignificant compared to her. That no matter how much he attempted, she would be able to simply bruteforce her way through him. Though, the Valkyrie was one that enjoyed playing with her food. Then again, he wasn't exactly a dish to her. In many ways he reminded her of a lost puppy that now attempted to stand up to a wild wolf. Holding up a hand to focus her energy, a magical circle soon began forming underneath her, before a sparkling and encompassing bright light errupted, running through her body. "Codex!" Astra muttered in a single word, before returning her attention to Arton. The sparkling light seemed to simply seep into her body, hiding behind her eyes, as if ready to pounce at any moment. When he went through his transformation and now appeared like something demonic Astra's demeanor changed. A creature of the divine couldn't simply let a demonic entity like this pass around freely. As Arton got into range with his attack, her eyes had already seen through him. Leaning backwards so that his blade barely missed her, it wasn't even allowed to touch her hair. As soon as his attack had missed, she moved forwards, in speeds so fast that he would likely only be able to identify her as a blurry motion. From here, she'd penetrate his stance. Stepping quickly forwards with one leg, so that hers intertwined with his, she'd attempt to follow this up with an elbow blow to the centre of his chest. The girl was definitely holding her strenght back, as to not outright kill her opponent if she hit. Though if a blow landed, he'd be knocked harshly backwards. With her leg placed as it was, he'd hopefully trip over it, therefore starting to roll backwards quickly, huddled up in a ball.
If he somehow managed to dodge her attempt, she'd instead unleash a barrage of open-palm strikes against whichever bodypart was in range. The girl wasn't going to let him simply swing his weapon again after he had so blatantly missed hitting her the first time.

Magic Used:
Spell Name: Valkyrian Codex Level: A Range: Self Description: Astra creates a two-layered magical circle on the ground. Once these two magic circles trigger, if Astra stll remains inside the circle, she gains a significant boost to her strenght and speed for a short three-turn duration, by aligning her magical flow with her movements. In short, her mana assists in moving her body. Drawback: During the effects of Valkyrian Codex, Astra cannot use any other spells.
